Greedy Gus the Pirate written by Pam Holden illustrated by Pauline Whimp
Greedy Gus was a lazy pirate who always wanted to be rich. He was greedy for money, and he was also greedy about food. He didn't like working hard, so he stole treasure from other people. Greedy Gus sailed on his old ship, the Seven Seas. His bad pirates helped him to steal treasure from other ships as they sailed across the sea. They stole gold, silver, money and jewels.
Every time the pirates stole some more treasure, they took it to an island called Secret Island. They hid sacks full of gold and money inside a dark cave in the middle of the island. After a long time, the cave at Secret Island was full of shining jewels and bright treasure. "Aha!" said Greedy Gus, "We're rich, but we're hungry. Let's go back to the ship for a feast."
When the pirates got back to their ship, they always had a noisy party. There was loud music and plenty of food. They sang pirate songs and danced until late at night. The next morning they sailed far away to find more treasure to steal.
The animals that lived on Secret Island didn't like the bad pirates because they were so greedy. The monkeys thought of an idea to teach the pirates a lesson. All the animals went to an important meeting, where they made a clever plan. The next time Greedy Gus and his nasty pirates sailed to Secret Island, the animals were ready.
The pirates used a long rope to tie their ship to a tree stump. The animals watched them carrying heavy sacks of stolen treasure to the dark cave. "I'm very hungry," said Greedy Gus. "After we have counted all our money, we'll go back to the ship for a delicious feast."
