22 On the Move

On the Move written by Pam Holden illustrated by Kelvin Hawley

One morning Cleo the cat woke up to the sound of people making lots of loud noises in the house. When she went to have a look to see what was happening, she found everyone in the family busily putting all of their things away into boxes.

Cleo watched while even her cat food was put into a big box. This wasn't something that Cleo had ever seen happen before. What was the family doing? Why were they doing it? What was going to happen next? Cleo didn't know and she felt afraid of what might happen to her.

Cleo watched and listened as a big loud truck came to a stop close to the house. Next, Cleo saw three strong movers climb down out of the truck and then go inside the house. Soon they were back with box after box, that they carefully put into the back of the truck.

One-by-one Cleo could see all of the family's things from the house being picked up by the strong movers and put into the back of the truck. Even Cleo's own basket went in. Cleo felt very afraid. Why were these movers taking her basket? Where were they going? What was happening?

While everybody was busy in the house, Cleo ran quickly and jumped up high into the back of the truck. She was looking for her basket. She looked all around the back of the truck and then she saw it - up high on top of the fridge. Cleo climbed up and into her basket.
