21 Midnight Feast

Midnight Feast written by Pam Holden illustrated by Pauline Whimp

Jean and John had a busy store in a nice, little town, near the forest. They sold lots of things to the people who came in to shop. The children would come into their store to buy sweet treats and chocolate.

One morning, they came in to find a really big surprise! There was a really big mess in the sweet treat part of the store! "Who would make such a big mess?" asked Jeam "Who could eat that much sugar in one night?" John looked all around him at the mess, "We had better begin cleaning before some people come in to shop," he said. John began to sweep the mess together into one place.

It took Jean and John a long time to clean up the mess and put out more sweet treats. At last, everything was back in its right place, the mess was gone, and the store looked nice again. They still didn't know, what or who would do such a thing. That night, John set a trap and said, "If it's a rat or a squirrel, this will catch it."

The next day, to their surprise, there was another really big mess in the sweet treat part of the store. But the trap was empty! "Well," said Jean, "someone or something has had another midnight feast!" While John and Jean spent the morning cleaning up the mess and putting everything back in its right place, John was thinking. Why was it only the sweet treats and chocolate that were missing? Soon he had an idea.

Later that afternoon, someone came to the store to put up a special camera. Soon they would be able to see who, or what, was eating all the sweet treats and making the place such a mess. Then they would know who was having a midnight feast.
