18 Bee Careful!

Bee Careful! written by Diana Burslem illustrated by Phillip Webb

One afternoon, while Jake and George were putting away the sports gear, they noticed something strange. "Look! said Jake, "What are those people doing?" The two boys went to have a closer look. "Listen!" said George, as they got close. Both the boys could hear a loud buzzing sound.

Soon they noticed a lot of bees flying together. Around and around they flew. When the boys were closer to them, the bees' buzzing sounded even louder. One boy had been stung and George tried to help him. Some of the children were afraid of the bees, so Jake took a swing at them as they flew past. "Don't hurt them!" called the Caretaker. "They are flying around looking for a place to make their new home. They don't want to hurt you."

Some of the bees were fast and they quickly flew up high onto the flagpole. The rest of the bees slowly began to follow. The bees didn't sound so loud once they were way up high. From safe inside her office, the Principal was watching the bees flying by. She quickly called a Beekeeper to come and help.

The Beekeeper came as fast as he could. He wore his special hat, special clothes and he put his special gloves on. "This is to save me from a sting." said the Beekeeper. "Now I can get even closer to the bees."

The Beekeeper had to climb way up high to reach the bees. He climbed fast, and he quickly made it to the top of the flagpole. Once he got to the top, he carefully pushed the buzzing bees into a box. Way down low on the ground, everyone watched quietly.
