2 All Kinds of Clothes

All Kinds of Clothes written by Pam Holden

All over the world, people wear different kinds of clothes. Their clothes are not the same at night as in daytime. At night, they wear loose clothes for sleeping. In daytime, people need clothes that are right for what they are doing. They need different clothes in all kinds of weather. When it rains, people need special clothes to keep them dry.

In winter, when it is cold, people wear warm clothes to go outside. They need warm hats and socks, as well as boots and thick coats. When there is snow, they need jackets and gloves and scarves. In summer, people need light clothes that are loose and cool. They wear big hats to keep the sun off their faces. Their feet stay cool in light shoes or sandals.

People wear special clothes for sports. For sports on snow and ice, players need warm clothes. People sailing in boats wear hats and lifejackets. Many sports make the players hot, so they wear cool clothes. For some sports, the players need helmets, pads or gloves. Sometimes they need boots or caps.

Many people wear clothes that are made to keep them safe as they work. Firefighters wear special clothes when they rescue people or fight fires. Astronauts wear space suits with helmets and boots when they fly into space. Builders wear hard hats and boots when they are working on a building.

Uniforms are sets of the same clothes worn by a group or team. Sports teams wear matching clothes, and some children wear uniforms to school. People wear their group uniform when they dance or play music together. Some uniforms show what work people do— like police, nurses, pilots, and bus drivers.
