4 Message from Camp

Message from Camp written by Pam Holden illustrated by Philip Webb

The children and their uncle went camping far away in the hills. "Will you come home on Monday or Tuesday?" asked Aunty. "We'll send you a message," they said. Aunty laughed. "How can you send me a message from a camp far away in the hills?" she asked. "You'll see. Watch for a message," said Uncle and the children. "Goodbye," said Aunty. "I'll see you on Monday or Tuesday."

The children helped uncle to put up their tent near the river. "Now we'll send a message to Aunty," they said. First they wrote their message on a piece of paper. Then they put it into a bottle, and they put the cork in tight.

They put the bottle into the river, and they watched it float away. It went slowly out into the middle of the deep river. Then it went faster and faster.

The bottle floated under a bridge, and it went past two fishermen. Then it fell over a little waterfall. Splash! Splash! But it didn't stop.

That night, the bottle sailed along under the moon and the stars. It went past three ducks and between two big rocks.
