21 SOS

S.O.S.! written by John Lockyer illustrated by Kelvin Hawley

"Let's have some fun!" said Adam's dad. Adam laughed. "Yes," he said. "Let's do it!" Adam sat behind his father in the jet. They zoomed across the sky. They went up. They went down. They went around and around and upside down.

All the ups and all the downs made Adam feel dizzy but he didn't want his dad to stop. "Let's do it again!" he shouted. His dad said nothing. "Dad!" he shouted. Adam pushed his dad, then he pulled him. His dad still didn't move.

Adam looked out the window. The jet was going down and no one was flying it! If his dad didn't wake up he would have to fly the jet! He knew how to fly. His dad showed him and it was fun. This wasn't. "Oh!" Adam shouted. "Wake up, Dad... Please!"

The jet was still going down. "If Dad can't help me," Adam said, "His friends will. I'll call for help." He hit a yellow switch. "This is Adam!" he shouted. "My Dad can't fly!" Then the jet tipped over. "S.O.S.!" he shouted. "The jet is going down! S.O.S.!"

Adam put his hands on the controls. "No one can help me," he said. "I have to do this on my own." He thought about what his dad showed him. He pulled the controls back and the jet slowed down. "Good," he said. "Now put down the wheels." He hit another switch and everything stopped.
