Hunting for Treasure written by Pam Holden illustrated by Pauline Whimp
When Grandpa went to visit Charlie, he always had a surprise for him. "Today we'll have a treasure hunt," said Grandpa. "I'll hide something for you to find. I'll tell you when you're getting hot. Close your eyes and count to ten." "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! I'm coming!" shouted Charlie. "Stickybeak will help me find the treasure."
The first place that Charlie looked was under the table. "No, you're cold," said Grandpa, and he laughed to himself. Stickybeak flew around squawking, "No good, no good." The second place that he tried was behind the television, but there wasn't any treasure there. "You're getting colder," said Grandpa.
The third place that Charlie looked was on top of the clock. "You're still cold," said Grandpa. Stickybeak sat on Grandpa's shoulder and squawked, "Cold, cold." Next Charlie went to the window. He looked behind the curtains. He saw Stickybeak, but he couldn't see any treasure. "You're warm now," said Grandpa.
Charlie looked under the cushions on all the chairs. "Now you're warmer," said Grandpa. "Warm, warm," squawked Stickybeak. Next Charlie tried the toy basket, but he didn't find any treasure there. "You're very warm now," said Grandpa. "No good, no good," squawked Stickybeak.
Then Charlie looked on the bookshelf. Grandpa laughed to himself. "You're getting hot now," he said. Stickybeak flew around squawking, "Hot, hot, hot." Charlie opened the top of the piano, and he looked inside. Stickybeak looked inside too, "No good, no good," he squawked. "Now you're hotter," said Grandpa.
