Look in the Waterhole written by Pam Holden illustrated by Pauline Whimp
One day Max Monkey went to the waterhole to have a drink. "I am very thirsty," he said. "I need a big, long drink." As he put his mouth down near the water, he saw a round face looking up at him. Max Monkey had never seen that face before and he was very frightened.
He ran quickly back into the jungle. Parrot came flying through the trees. "Don't go near the waterhole today," Max Monkey told him. "There is a wild animal hiding in the water. It could get you!" "What does it look like?" asked Parrot. "It looks scary and mean," said Max Monkey.
His friend Zebra came running along. "Don't go to the waterhole for a drink today," said Max Monkey and Parrot. "A wild animal is hiding in there. What can we do?" "What does it look like?" asked Zebra. "It is big and round," said Max Monkey.
His friend Snake came sliding along. "You can't go to the waterhole," said Max Monkey and his friends. "A wild animal is hiding in there today. It could get you!" "What does it look like?" asked Snake. "It looks hairy and scary," said Max Monkey.
Then Frog came hopping along. "Don't go near the waterhole today," Max Monkey told him. "I saw a wild animal hiding in there. What can we do?" "What does it look like?" asked Frog. "It looks clean and mean," said Max Monkey.
