When you look around your home or your town, you will see numbers on all kinds of things. They are there to help us every day. telephone There are numbers on the telephone. Do you know your own phone number? What is your friend's number?

What is the date today? How would we know the date if we didn't have numbers on a calendar? calendar We wouldn't know how hot or cold it is without numbers on a thermometer.

We need numbers to help us read a map. Numbers on road signs tell us how far we have to go. map How would we find a place that we want to visit if there were no numbers to help us?

When we are shopping, we use numbers to tell us the size and the price. What size do you need for new shoes? money How much money will we need to buy the things we want? How much does a new ball cost?

Numbers help us to measure things. Can you find out how tall you are? Do you know how heavy you are? measuring You will need to use numbers on rulers and scales. Who is the tallest one in your class?
