A Bone for Buddy written by Jack Gabolinscy illustrated by Pauline Whimp
Tom gave Buddy a juicy bone to eat. Buddy barked and wagged his tail. "Ruff! Ruff! Thank you," he barked. He chewed and chewed his bone. Then he lay down and went to sleep in his kennel.
When Buddy was asleep, a white cat came creeping along to eat his bone. Suddenly Buddy woke up. "Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!" he barked. "Get away from my bone! Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!" he growled, and he chased the white cat up a tree.
When Buddy went back to sleep again, a blackbird came flying down. It pecked and pecked at the juicy bone. But Buddy woke up and saw the bird. "Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!," he barked. "Fly away! Leave my bone alone."
As soon as Buddy went to sleep again, a brown rat came running along. It nibbled and chewed on the bone. Buddy woke up and ran after the rat. "Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!" he growled. "Get away from my bone."
When Buddy went to sleep again, a great big dog looked over the fence. It came and took the juicy bone away. Buddy woke up and he was angry. He barked and ran after the big dog. "Ruff! Ruff! Ruff! Give me back my bone," he growled.
