19 Charlies Flying Lessons

Charlie watched some herons when they made their nest up high in a tree. One day he saw a baby bird fall out of its nest. It fell a long way down. Charlie could not put it back way up there!

"I could look after you, little bird," he said. "I know what you need." He took the baby heron home to look after it. First, he made a little nest for it.

Charlie gave worms and water to the baby heron. It was hungry and its beak was open. His Dad helped him. They gave the little bird good food every day.

Soon the heron got big. It ran along with Charlie every day, but it didn't ever try to fly. "When will your bird learn to fly?" asked Dad.

Charlie said, "I will try to show him how to fly." He ran with his kite flying up high to show the bird how things fly. The heron went along with him, but it didn't look up at the kite.
