Chapter 11 Fifty Years and Counting So who is Bob Dylan really? In 2007, a movie came out about him called I'm Not There. Six different actors, including a woman and a young African American boy, all played Bob Dylan. That is probably as close to a "real" picture of Bob as anyone can get. What he does give the public is his music. In September 2012, Bob Dylan released Tempest, his thirty-fifth studio album. But unlike many singers, he doesn't wait for a new album to go on tour. Dylan has also acted in seven movies and directed two of them—Renaldo and Clara and Eat the Document. Bob Dylan will always be a private person. The writer Robert Shelton once described him as wanting "personal privacy and professional approval." "Professional approval" means Bob Dylan wants people to think his music is great. Maybe that explains why one hundred nights a year, Dylan, now in his seventies, walks onstage with his Fender Stratocaster guitar.
