ALPACA FACTS FROM A TO Z! Best-friend material! Alpacas are social animals, which means they like making friends. It's easy for them to be friends with other farm animals! Did you know that alpacas can be different colors? From white to dark gray, alpacas come in twenty-two hues! The word for a baby alpaca is cria. Aw! All alpacas are domesticated, which means none live in the wild. They are all raised and live among people. Alpaca fur (called fleece) is durable—it's both water-and fire-resistant.

A llapaca is a cross between a llama and an alpaca. Alpacas can spit up to ten feet! But don't worry—they only do so when annoyed or threatened. Alpacas can live to be twenty-five years old. Wow!
