Chapter 1 What's for Dinner? Tonight you want spaghetti for dinner. You go into the garden. There, you pick ripe tomatoes. Now you can make spaghetti sauce! Many people grow plants in home gardens. In this book, you will learn about plants. You will also learn how to plant a garden.

Chapter 2 All About Plants All plants are living things. They grow and change. Trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables are plants. Some plants are safe to eat. Plants have different parts. Roots hold the plant in the ground. Roots also take in water. Stems hold up the plant's leaves and flowers. Leaves use sunlight to make food.

Seeds and Bulbs Some plants grow from seeds. Seeds have a seed coat. It keeps the seed safe. Some plants grow from bulbs. Bulbs are stems. They grow underground. You can eat some bulbs.

Plants Have Needs Plants need light, air, and water. These help plants live and grow. Plants use energy from the Sun to make food. This is called photosynthesis.
