Chapter 1 Tell the Weather People who tell the weather have an important job. They can tell us if it might rain tomorrow. They can tell us if it might be sunny. Weather people use many tools to forecast the weather. Forecast means "to tell what the weather will be." Some weather tools have been around for a long time. Barometers have been used for hundreds of years. Yet satellites are new.

Chapter 2 Thermometers and Wind Vanes Thermometers tell us how hot or cold it is outside. Thermometers are made of glass tubes. The tubes are filled with liquid. When it gets hot, the liquid goes higher. When it gets cold, the liquid goes lower. This shows the temperature! Wind vanes tell which way the wind is blowing. Wind vanes swing in the wind. They point to where the wind comes from. A north wind comes from the north. Where does a south wind come from?

Chapter 3 Rain Gauges and Barometers People who tell the weather also use a rain gauge. This tool tells how much rain fell. A barometer measures air pressure. If the air pressure is high, there will be cooler temperatures and clear skies. If the air pressure is low, warmer temperatures and storms are on the way.

Chapter 4 Radar Radar is a weather tool, too. It tells what the weather might be like. Radar sends signals into the air. The signals bounce off clouds and rain. The signals show where it is raining or snowing. Radar can save lives. It shows how fast storms are moving. Radar can tell us to get away from the storm area quickly.
