Chapter 1 What Is Matter? Matter is anything that takes up space. Matter can be solid, liquid, or gas. Rocks, water, and air are matter. Your best friend is made of matter, too.

Chapter 2 Solid Matter Solid matter has shape and size. You can knock it or sock it. Solid matter keeps its shape. Solid matter keeps its size.

Chapter 3 Liquid Matter Liquid matter will splash and splatter, Liquid flows right through your toes. A liquid changes shape but not size. It takes the shape of what you pour it into.

Chapter 4 Gas Gas is the lightest form of matter. A gas changes size to fill any space. Air is a gas you cannot see. But you can feel it!
