Chapter 1 Apple Seeds Do you like to eat apples? Apples are a fruit. They are good for you. They taste good, too. Apples can be red, yellow, or green. All apples have seeds. Apple trees grow from apple seeds. It takes years for an apple tree to grow. It takes even longer for apples to grow on the tree.

Chapter 2 How an Apple Tree Grows You plant a seed in the spring. Soon, it sprouts, or grows, small roots. The roots get food from the soil. A small shoot grows through the seed coat. The shoot grows through the soil and out of the ground. Then leaves begin to sprout. They get energy from the Sun. The shoot grows into a sapling A sapling has to be strong to grow. In about six years, the sapling grows into an apple tree!

In spring, small green buds grow on apple trees. The buds open into blossoms. The blossoms smell good. Bees carry pollen from blossom to blossom. The pollen helps blossoms grow into apples. The petals of the blossoms fall after about nine days. A tiny apple begins to grow inside each blossom!

Chapter 3 Apple Trees in Summer and Fall In the summer, the apples grow bigger and bigger. They need rain and sunshine to grow. In the fall, the weather gets colder. The apples are large and ripe. People pick the apples before the first frost of winter.
