Chapter 4

CHAPTER FOUR A basket of fresh scones was dropped off at the village hall by Simi's father. They looked delicious.

Dick rubbed his tummy. 'I'm going to cross my fingers that we win now, he said. Anne rolled her eyes. 'Honestly, you only ever think about food.' Food is good, Dick said seriously.

Anne turned to Julian, who was staring at the far end of the hall. Julian, what are you looking at?' she asked. 'That's the man who bumped into Aunt Fanny on the way here, Julian said in a low voice.

Anne, Dick and George followed Julian's gaze. 'Yes, it is...' George agreed. The man was holding the teapot up to the light. 'He's looking at the tea set very closely, Julian announced. 'And he's soaking wet!'

Anne frowned. She wasn't sure why Julian had pointed that out. George understood first. 'He must have been the person who went through the fire exit and into the rain!' she exclaimed.
