Famous Five · 1 Five and the Missing Prize
CHAPTER TWO Storm clouds had gathered over Kirrin by the time the Five and Aunt Fanny set off for the village show. Rain pelted down on them, but Aunt Fanny greeted everyone they passed with a smile and a hello.
Suddenly a tall man rounded a corner and his umbrella collided with Aunt Fanny's, almost knocking it out of her hand. 'Hey!' Julian called after the man. 'Watch where you're going!' The man hurried away without a single look over his shoulder.
'Who's that?' Anne asked. Aunt Fanny shrugged. 'I have no idea.' 'He's very rude, George said. 'It was just a clash of umbrellas, Aunt Fanny replied. 'Now, come on. Let's walk faster so we can get out of this rain.
As the Five entered the village hall, they looked around in awe. On one side there were stalls selling local flowers, pots of honey, crocheted hats and second-hand books.
'We have to try the pumpkin juice, Dick said, eyeing a drinks stand next to a display of pumpkins. 'We will- after we've entered our jam,' Julian said.
'Woof!' Timmy ran up to a girl in the queue with long black hair and licked her hand. It was Simi, whose parents owned the village bakery. Simi knelt and threw her arms round the dog.' 'Hello, Timmy!' George greeted her. 'Hi, Simi. What flavour's your jam?'
