Get Moving! Run! Jump! Climb! A playground gets you moving! You need energy to have fun on a playground. Energy gives you power to move. You get energy by eating food.
Give It a Push! You can run and jump when you push against the ground. A push is a force. A force is energy that moves things. Push down. You jump up. Push backward. You go forward. If you push harder, you go farther.
Ladders Let's climb! Your legs push down on the steps of the ladder. Your arms pull you up. A pull is another kind of force. Science in Your World On a jungle gym, you push down on the bars with your legs. You pull yourself up with your hands.
Slides Sit at the top of the slide. Then let go. Zoom! What force moves you down the slide? Gravity pulls you down. Gravity is a force. It pulls all things toward the ground.
Seesaws Up. Down. Up. Down. Your legs push you up on a seesaw. Your friend goes down. Your friend pushes up. You go back down. Picture a cat and a bear on a seesaw. The bear pushes up with its legs. But it comes right back down. It is much bigger than the cat. The little cat is stuck up in the air!
