You can run in a grassy field or hike up a mountain. You can swim in a lake or ride a boat in the ocean.

Earth is called a rocky planet. That's because rocks make up most of the land. What else makes up Earth's land?

Soil is also part of Earth's land. It is mostly made of tiny rocks. Some dead plants and animals are mixed in. So is water. Without soil most plants could not grow.
