living underground

living underground

Some animals make their homes under the ground. Moles live in holes. They are safe there from other animals that want to catch them.

Rabbits live in homes that are under the ground. They dig holes that are called burrows. They come out to find food. Baby rabbits keep safe and warm in their burrows.

Some birds dig burrows, too. They make nests in tunnels. Their eggs and chicks are safe under the ground.

Bears live in caves in the cold winter when there is snow on the ground. Their cubs keep warm in caves, and they come out in the spring.

Worms live in tunnels under the ground. Ants and other insects make nests there, too. They dig into the earth. Hungry birds can't see them down there.
