An octopus does a good thing if it is attacked. It puts black ink into the water all around it. Then its enemy can't see it swimming away.

An animal that wants to attack a skunk soon runs away. The skunk lets out a very bad smell! Animals know not to attack a skunk again.

Butterflies are bright and beautiful. Hungry birds are looking for food. Birds know that bright butterflies taste bad. They fly away and look for other food.

Crabs get attacked by hungry animals. They know how to use their big claws. Crabs can hide in rock pools. They can dig down into the sand.

A hedgehog knows how to keep safe. It puts its head and legs under its body. Then it rolls into a prickly ball. Its prickles stop an enemy from attacking it.
