Jason looked sad as he came into Kids Central. “ What’s the matter, Jason?” Ethan asked. “ My dad usually picks me up on Wednesdays for pizza, ” Jason said. “ But he’s on another business trip. ” “ Will he be back soon?” Ethan asked.

Jason sighed. “ I’m not sure. Maybe tomorrow. ” “ Everyone, sit down, ” Miss Shelly said. “ Today we’re going to cook—and do art! ” “ Yes! ” Jason cheered up a little bit. He liked both cooking and doing art. “ I hope we’re going to decorate cupcakes, ” Izzie said.

“ Nope, ” Miss Shelly said. “ We’re making veggie faces. ” “ Veggie faces?” Jason made a face. That didn’t sound very interesting. Nina passed out slices of bread. Bobby started to take a bite of his. “ Don’t eat it yet, Bobby! ” Nina said. “ They’re for our veggie faces. ”

Miss Shelly pointed to some ingredients on the table. “ First spread your bread with peanut butter. Then comes the fun part— making faces. ” Jason spread peanut butter on his bread. Then he looked at the bowls of vegetables. There were carrots, peas, celery, bean sprouts, peppers, radishes, and more.

“ Use several different kinds of vegetables, ” Miss Shelly said. “ They will be the features on your face. ” “ I’m not using peas, ” Ethan said. “ But I’m going to use peppers. ” Everyone started making veggie faces. Izzie took a spoonful of carrots for hair. Then she used peas on top of cucumber slices for eyes. She used an olive for a nose.
