Memories

Roxy woke up and saw a crowd. “ I’m in Mountain National Park, ” she thought. “ How did I get here?” Her mom smiled at her. “ Are you having fun, Doodle Bug?” “ Doodle Bug?” Roxy thought. “ My parents haven’t called me that since . . . ” She saw herself in a window. “ I’m a two- year-old! ”

Brain Invader appeared. Roxy tried to fire her eye laser beams. But nothing happened. “ You don’t have superpowers yet. ” Brain Invader’s voice was in her head. “ But you will soon. ” “ What do you mean?” Roxy thought.

“ This is just your memory, ” the villain said. “ Watch. ” A park ranger smiled. “ It’s your lucky day, folks. Old Misty is about to—” Fwoosh! Water shot up from the geyser. Steam filled the air. The crowd cheered. Warm drops fell on Roxy. “ I feel different, ” Roxy thought. “ I feel . . . powerful! ”

Suddenly Roxy was getting tucked into bed by her mother. Her dad was holding a picture book. “ No more stories, ” he said. “ It’s time to go to sleep. ” “ No sleep! ” Roxy heard herself say.

She was acting like a two-year-old. Whiz-hoo! Her eye laser beams fired. Her dollhouse blew up. Her parents gasped. Now Roxy was in a booster seat. She was bigger. “ I must be older now, ” she thought. Her parents were up front. They were driving along a highway at night. Rain poured down.
