Old Misty

It was early morning in Mountain National Park. A skunk walked past a sign that read “ Old Misty Geyser. ” Bloop! Bloop! Water bubbled from the geyser. A drop splashed onto the skunk. The skunk hurried into the woods. Crack! A tree fell over as the skunk began to grow.

“ Look! ” Mara said. “ I see the actor who plays Mighty Man. ” Roxy’s class was at Mountain National Park. Lots of people were there. They stood around Old Misty, the park’s geyser. The actor from Mighty Man was taking a selfie with some fans.

Terrell read a sign near the ranger station. “ The last time Old Misty blew was six years ago. ” Roxy looked at the sign. “ We were only two years old then. ” She turned and saw her reflection in a window. She felt strange. “ Weird, ” Roxy thought. “ I feel like I’ve been here before. ”

Someone bumped into her. “ Oof! ” Roxy said. “ Sorry, kid! ” A soldier walked by. A general and some other people followed her. One person in the group looked familiar. “ That’s Dr. Chen, ” Roxy thought. “ I met her on the space station. ”

The scientist pointed a device at Old Misty. Roxy wanted to say hello. But she knew she couldn’t do that. “ Dr. Chen only knows Rocket Girl, ” Roxy thought. Terrell’s phone beeped. “ I got a text from my mom, ” he said. “ I have a dentist appointment this afternoon. I can still come over for dinner though. ”
