More Plants

“ I need to go to Mayor Bloom’s office, ” Roxy thought. “ People are missing. ” Roxy ran into Jack’s backyard. “ Hey, guys! ” she said. “ I need to . . . ” Jack, Mara, and Terrell weren’t there. “ Where are they?” Roxy said. Then she shrugged. “ They probably went into Jack’s house. ”

When Roxy arrived at the mayor’s building, she gasped. “ Another plant! ” This plant was enormous. Its twisting vines crept up the side of the building. It had several large bulbs that seemed to move. Large pods hung from under the bulbs. Roxy went into Mayor Bloom’s office. The mayor wasn’t there.

Roxy noticed the window was broken. “ Where did he go?” she thought. Roxy flew over to police headquarters. Another plant was growing up the side of that building. “ Where did all these plants come from?” Roxy thought. Detective Smith was in his office. He was looking at something on his computer.

“ Hey, Detective! ” Roxy said. “ I just saw your, um, garden outside. You really need to do some weeding! ” Detective Smith rolled his eyes. “ Very funny, Rocket Girl. I have no idea what that plant is. It’s very creepy. I don’t like it. ” “ So, what are you watching, Detective?” Roxy asked. “ Cartoons?”

Detective Smith looked up at her. “ You’re making a lot of jokes today. This is a security video. ” He moved over so Roxy could get a look. “ Several people went missing near the corner of West Street and River Drive, ” the detective said. “ This video is from a camera there. ”
