Car Wash

It was a bright Saturday morning in downtown Metro City. Detective Smith was on his way to work. He had almost reached Police Headquarters when a dark shadow spilled over the plaza. Detective Smith looked up. “ What is that?” he cried. A tall, silver robot sprayed a strange blue mist into the air.

A blue bubble formed and slowly began to surround Police Headquarters. “ Here comes a car! ” Mara called to her friends. The car pulled into the parking lot. She waved to the car’s driver.

Then she pointed to a sign. The sign said “ Car Wash. ” “ Hi, ” said the driver. ” How much for a car wash?” “ Ten dollars, ” said Mara. ” Our soccer team is raising money for new uniforms. ” Terrell and Jack ran over with a bucket of soapy water. Roxy carried some big sponges.

Everyone started scrubbing the car. “ This is only the third car we’ve washed today, ” said Terrell, frowning. “ I know, ” said Jack. “ I hope more cars come. Otherwise we won’t make enough money for new uniforms. ” “ And our old ones are so ugly, ” said Mara.

Roxy plunked her sponge into the water. She spread bubbles on the hood of the car. Soon the hood sparkled in the sunlight. Terrell looked thoughtful. “ Maybe Rocket Girl can help us get new uniforms, ” he said. “ We should ask her! ” said Jack.
