Bragging Rights
Badger and Rat held Toad in his chair. “ Look, Toad, ” said Badger. “ You will make no speeches. ” “ You will sing no songs, ” said Rat.
“ Can’t I sing one little song?” asked Toad. “ Not one little song! ” said Badger. “ We know what your songs are like. ” Toad’s lip trembled.
“ Your songs are full of bragging! ” said Badger. “ Your speeches are full of boasting! ” said Rat. “ Toad, it’s time for you to change, ” said Badger. Toad burst into tears.
Badger and Rat looked at each other. Toad sniffed and wiped his tears. “ You’re right, ” said Toad. “ I will be a different Toad from now on. ”
Toad walked sadly out of the room. He shook his head from side to side. “ Oh dear! ” said Toad. “ This is a hard world! ”
