Back in the Driver’s Seat

Back in the Driver’s Seat

The driver and his two friends stared at Toad. “ She fainted in the heat! ” said the raccoon. “ Maybe she didn’t eat today, ” said the squirrel. The raccoon and squirrel got out of the car.

“ Put her in the back with me, ” said the chipmunk. The raccoon and squirrel gently lifted Toad. They put him on a cushion in the backseat. “ They don’t know who I am! ” thought Toad.

The raccoon started the car. They drove down the road again. “ Look! ” said the chipmunk. “ The breeze is doing her good. ”

“ How are you feeling?” asked the raccoon. “ Much better, ” said Toad in a weak voice. Toad watched him turn the steering wheel.

“ I was only wondering . . . , ” Toad said. “ Could I sit next to you? It’s too windy back here now. ” “ Sure! ” said the raccoon.
