Doing the Wash

Doing the Wash

Toad walked to the back of the boat. “ I’m Toad of Toad Hall! ” he grumbled. “ I don’t wash clothes! ” Beside the dirty clothes was a washtub.

Toad picked up the soap. He held up a shirt. “ How do I wash this?” he said. He dipped it in the tub.

“ Should I rub soap on it?” he asked. Toad lay the shirt on the deck. “ Okay, I’ll rub some soap on it, ” said Toad. “ Hmmm, now what do I do?”

“ Oh, I’ll dip it in the tub again! ” said Toad. Toad put the shirt in the water. “ Hmmm, it’s still dirty, ” Toad said, taking it out. He splashed the shirt in the tub again and again.

“ I know! I’ll twist the shirt! ” said Toad. He twisted and hit the shirt against the tub. Soap bubbles spilled over the side into a puddle. “ Ahhh! ” Toad yelled, as he slipped and fell.
