Toad on the Road
Toad woke up under a pile of leaves. The sun shone in his eyes. His toes were cold. He sat up and yawned. “ Where am I?”
Toad brushed the leaves from his dress. Suddenly he remembered his escape. “ I’m free! ” he cried. “ I’m free! I’m free! ” Toad jumped up and down with joy.
“ I need to find out where I am, ” said Toad. Toad walked to a meadow nearby. Beyond the meadow was a canal. Beside the canal was a small path.
“ Aha, ” said Toad, “ here comes a horse. ” A horse was walking on the path. With a long rope, it pulled a boat on the canal. “ And here comes a boat, ” said Toad.
Before long, the boat was next to Toad. A possum in a red bonnet steered the boat. “ Good morning, madam, ” yelled the possum. “ Good morning to you! ” shouted Toad.
