Harvest Time
In the month of May, a pretty lark chose a safe spot in the green field. She built a nest and laid her eggs. In June, her eggs hatched and the chicks began to grow. In July, her chicks grew feathers, but they still could not fly. So, the mother lark had to search for food every day. Feed me, feed me, ” her chicks chirped.
She would fly high and low, then high and low, until she found some food. One day while she was out looking for food, the farmer and his son went for a walk in the field. They stopped near the lark’s nest and began to talk. " My wheat field is ripe. It is harvest time. I must hire some men to harvest the wheat. ”
The son looked disappointed. The mother lark saw the farmer near her nest and flew home as fast as she could. Why was the farmer here?” the mother lark asked. The chicks told her what the farmer had said. “ Should we move now? Where should we go?” one little lark asked.
We do not need to worry, ” the mother lark replied. “ We do not need to move. The farmer is not ready to harvest yet. ” The mother lark went out for food again the next day. She flew left, then right, then left, then right. While she was zigzagging over the field, the farmer was talking to his son below. My wheat field is ripe, ” he said. “ It is harvest time.
I must ask my friends to help me harvest my wheat. ” The son agreed, but he still looked disappointed. The mother lark saw the farmer near her nest and flew home as fast as she could. Why was the farmer here?” the mother lark asked.
