Building a House

Building a House

My dad works as an architect. A long time ago, he drew a plan for our family’s dream house. Last year he finally began building the house. The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s almost done now. But I remember every step of building it. First a bulldozer came and cleared away some trees and rocks.

Then the workers poured concrete for the foundation. The foundation is what the house sits on. Next a crew of carpenters cut wood to make the frame. Then the workers put up the frame. The frame is like a skeleton for the house. It holds up the walls and roof. When the frame was finished, workers added boards to the roof and outside walls.

They also put on the roofing. Then the plumber and electrician came. The plumber set up pipes for water. The electrician put in wires so we could have electricity. After that the workers added boards to the inside walls. They also put in the doors and windows. Every house needs those things, of course!

The workers also put bricks on the outside of the house. The house looked almost finished from the outside. But the inside wasn’t ready yet. The workers had to finish the bathrooms and kitchen. The next part was the most fun for me. I picked one of the rooms for my bedroom.

Then I got to paint it by myself! Dad let me choose any color paint I wanted. I picked blue since it’s my favorite color. In the backyard my parents and I planted bushes and flowers. The yard already had a tall oak tree. My brother and I hung a swing from one of its branches. Whee! Mom and Dad like to swing on it too!
