The T-Shirt Logo Contest

Hank frowned at the sketch on his desk. His class was having a T-shirt contest for Earth Day, and each student had to create a logo. Then Mrs. Getty would choose a winner and order T-shirts for everyone. Hank had sketched a green frog with a speech bubble that read Think Green. But he didn’t like his design very much.

He added a superhero cape and a new speech bubble: Fight for Earth. “ That’s better, ” he thought. “ But—” Anna suddenly poked him with her pencil. “ Cool logo, ” she whispered. “ Thanks. ” Hank was still frowning. “ I don’t like it. ” “ I do. I hate to draw and—”

” Anna and Hank! ” Mrs. Getty said sharply. ” You’re supposed to be writing book reviews—not talking. ” ” Sorry, ” Hank mumbled. “ It’s time for math now, ” the teacher said to the class. “ You can finish your reviews later—for homework. ” Everyone groaned.

As Hank flipped his notebook closed, a burst of air sent papers flying off his desk. Sighing, he scooped them up. “ Ugh, ” he thought. He hadn’t even finished reading his book yet. Writing this dumb book review would take forever.

Hank started his homework right after dinner, but as he read, his thoughts kept drifting to the T-shirt contest. “ I’ll just draw for a few minutes, ” he thought. “ Then I’ll finish reading. ” Hank quickly sketched some ideas. Next he used colored pencils to add color and details to several designs.

He didn’t notice the time until his phone suddenly beeped. “ Ack! ” he cried. “ My book review! I lost track of time! ” Hank reached for his phone. Before he could stop himself, he searched the internet for the title of his book. A link popped up, which took him to a website . . . with hundreds of book reviews.
