When Birds

When Birds Fly Low

Sammy was a cute sparrow. He flew over the river with his mom. “ Oh, Mom, it’s cloudy today, ” Sammy said. “ Yes, Sammy, ” said Mom. “ It looks like it will rain soon. ” “ Mom, I’m hungry, ” Sammy complained. “ Yes, I’m also hungry. Let’s find something to eat. ”

“ Mom, Mom! ” Sammy said. “ Rest in the woods. I will go and get some food. ” “ Can you do it by yourself?” Mom asked. “ Sure, I can! ” Sammy was old enough to find food on his own. He was a good flier too. He flew around the river to look for insects. But he couldn’t find a single one.

“ Hmm, this is strange. Why can’t I find any insects?” he wondered. Sammy felt tired and went back to his mom. “ Mom, I searched hard, but I couldn’t find a single insect . I used to see insects everywhere, but now they are gone. ” “ Sammy, why don’t you fly low?” Mom suggested.

“ What? You want me to fly low?” Sammy asked. “ Yes, fly low. Then you will see the insects. ” Sammy took his mom’s advice. He flew around the river again. This time he flew low. “ Wow! I couldn’t find a single one when I flew high, ” he said. “ Now I can see many insects. Yay! ”

Sammy caught a big insect and brought it to his mom. “ Mom, I don’t understand. Why are all the insects so close to the ground?” His mother explained. “ Before it rains, the air gets moist. The moisture in the air makes insects’ wings heavy. So the insects fly in the grass and bushes near the ground. ” Sammy understood. “ I get it!
