Jeffrey the Giant

Jeffrey the Giant

Jeffrey the Giant had many friends. Everyone liked Jeffrey because he was so kind. When Peter’s ball got stuck in a tree, Jeffrey got it down. “ Thanks, Jeffrey, ” Peter said. “ Oh, you’re welcome, Peter, ” said Jeffrey.

When Mary hurt herself, Jeffrey carried her home. “ Oh my leg! ” cried Mary. “ Are you okay? Here, let me help you up. I’ll take you home, ” said Jeffrey. “ Thanks, Jeffrey, ” said Mary. Jeffrey liked to help his friends. But it was hard for Jeffrey to play with them.

The hiding spots for hide-and-seek were too small. The jump rope was too short. The basketball hoop was too low. The seesaw always went up, but it never came down. One day Jeffrey left the playground. He sat down under the biggest tree he could find. “ I am too big to play with my friends, ” he said to himself. Jeffrey was sad.

He lowered his head and cried. “ Hi, my name is Eddy. I’m new here. Do you want to play with me?” said a voice. Jeffrey didn’t look up. “ I’m too big to play with anyone, ” he cried. “ I don’t think you’re that big, ” said Eddy. “ Really?” asked Jeffrey. “ Yes, really, ” said Eddy. “ You’re big like me. "

Jeffrey looked up hopefully. Eddy was an elephant! “ Hi, ” said Jeffrey surprised. “ My name is Jeffrey. ” Eddy smiled. “ Why were you crying, Jeffrey ?” “ I was crying because I am too big to play with my friends, ” said Jeffrey.
