Almost Halloween
October 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st—oh no! There are only five more days until Halloween, and we’re not ready. But we won’t panic: we just need a good plan. Today Dad will drive us to the pumpkin patch. We will search and search. We’ll see pumpkins that are too small. We won’t want those.
We will also see pumpkins that are funny shaped. We won’t want those either. We will search for the perfect pumpkin. On the twenty-eighth, Mom will help us carve the pumpkin. We will take out the seeds and slimy stuff. Mom will bake the seeds for us. Mmm! We’ll cut out scary eyes, a pointy nose, and a mouth with teeth.
When we are finished, we’ll have a jack-o’-lantern. He’ll be scary! On the twenty-ninth, we will put up the decorations. We will make witches, moons, black cats, and scary bats. Then we’ll put them in our front windows and door. Dad will bring home a big bundle of hay, and Mom will sit the scarecrow on it.
Then Dad will put a red lightbulb over the door. That will really make our house spooky. On the thirtieth, we will make our costumes. I’m going to be a pirate. I’ll have a patch over my eye, a long sword, and a hook for my left hand. My sister will be a mummy. We will wrap her in white cloth from head to toe.
The last things we will need are two baskets for our candy. October 31st is Halloween. After dinner we will quickly put on our costumes. Mom will paint a black beard on my face. Then Dad will take us out to trick-or-treat. We will have to walk fast because there are so many houses to visit. At each house we will knock on the door and say, “ Trick or treat. ”
