The Blackout

“ It’s movie night! ” Dad said. “ Yay! ” Oliver cheered. “ What will we watch?” Harry asked.

“ You kids can decide what to watch, ” Mom said. “ Dad and I will make popcorn. ” Emmy turned on the TV. She flipped through the channel guide.

Crack! Lightning lit up the sky. “ Wow! ” Oliver said. Suddenly the TV went dark. The room was dark too.

“ Hey! ” Harry said. “ What happened?” “ It’s a blackout. ” Emmy sighed. “ Good-bye, movie night! ”

Mom and Dad came in with flashlights for everyone. “ The power is out, ” Dad said.

“ We can still eat popcorn, right?” Oliver asked. Dad shook his head. “ Nope. The power went out before the popcorn popped. ”
