Cat raced back to the Throne Room. “ Tom! ” she cried. “ Daimon locked the king in the Grim Dungeon. He wants to take over the castle! ”

Tom gasped. “ We must save the king! ” Dirk could not hear Cat. He scowled at Tom. “ What are you talking about?”

Tom told Dirk about Daimon. “ Don’t make up stories! ” Dirk snapped. He waved an arm at the tub. “ Daimon is a good wizard—unlike you! ”

Cat growled softly. “ Tom has a good heart, ” she hissed. But only Tom could hear her.

Ann hurried in. “ What’s going on, Father?” she asked. “ Tom is making up stories, ” Dirk said. “ He says Daimon is taking over the castle. ”
