Tom was worried. The princess was very sick. Everyone was waiting for news from the royal doctor.

At last the doctor came into the Throne Room. “ How is she?” cried the queen. “ Will the princess be okay?” the king asked.

The doctor nodded. “ The princess can be cured. ” The queen touched her heart. “ Oh, thank heavens! ” “ But . . . , ” the doctor went on. “ The princess must have something. ”

“ What?” Dirk snapped. “ Anything! ” “ I’m afraid . . . ” The doctor bowed his head. “ The princess needs the juice of sweet pinkberries. ”

The queen burst into tears. “ But pinkberries only grow in the spring! ” The king frowned. “ We must be able to do something now! ”
