The Crown in the Moat

Tom hurried to the moat. Dirk stood with some servants. “ What took you so long?” Dirk scowled. “ Princess Mary is waiting for you! ”

“ Princess Mary?” Tom looked over. A beautiful young woman stood near the water. She held a handkerchief as she sobbed.

Tom hurried over to the beautiful princess. “ What’s wrong?” Tom asked. “ My royal crown! ” said Princess Mary. “ It fell in the moat! ”

“ Now, now, Princess, ” Dirk said. He flashed an evil smile at Tom. “ The royal wizard will get it out at once. Isn’t that right, Tom?”

“ That’s right, ” Tom mumbled. He stepped closer to the moat. The water looked dark and murky.
