Tom's Gift

Tom wanted to be the new royal wizard. So did everyone else. But only one wizard could try out. “ I will pick the best wizard soon, ” said Master Wizard.

Tom practiced lots of magic spells. The other wizards practiced too.

One day Master called all the wizards. “ Each wizard must make a gift appear, ” he said. “ I will pick the best gift—and the best wizard. ”

Walter laughed. “ Tom can’t make a gift appear! ” Other wizards laughed too. Tom frowned.

Wizards made fancy cakes and candy appear. Golden coins and pens appeared too.
