The Magic Show

The Carters were enjoying a magic show. “ Mr. Amazing does the best tricks! ” Oliver said. “ I wish I knew his secrets, ” Harry said.

The magician asked for a volunteer from the audience. “ You must be brave, ” he said. “ I’ll make you disappear and then—” Oliver popped up from his seat.

He ran onto the stage. Mr. Amazing laughed. “ It looks like I already have my volunteer! ”

The magician opened a wooden box. He spun it around for the audience. “ You can see the box is empty, ” he said. “ It has only one door, and I’ll lock that. ”

Oliver began to look worried. The magician whispered something in Oliver’s ear.

Oliver waved to the audience and stepped into the box. Mr. Amazing closed the door and locked it. “ Uh-oh, ” Mom said. “ Oliver doesn’t like the dark. ”
